Self Help Groups

The Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health (DFMH) has been keen to support suitable self help groups for adults living with or recovering from mental ill health, since the DFMH began in 1984.

However, from the 1st April 2017, DFMH, along with Rethink Mental Illness and People, Potential, Possibilities (P3), are delivering a Recovery and Peer Support Service in Derbyshire, to help people improve and maintain their mental health and wellbeing and reconnect with their local community.

This service is open to anyone over the age of 18 living in Derbyshire who is experiencing mental ill health, and will offer access to targeted face to face support from staff, telephone support and community groups.

Rethink Mental Illness now have county wide (excluding Derby city) responsibility for supporting mental health self help groups and they employ two Group Development Workers, one in the north and one in the south of the county, to assist with the setting up of new groups and to offer support for existing groups.

For further details please contact the Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support’s – Single Point of Access service on 01773 734989 and ask to speak to the group development worker for your area.
